Inspect what you expect
Do you have a minimum maintenance goal? We utilize the FRA’s guidelines to inspect for defects.
Safety: site hazards, bonding, signage, spill protection etc
Gauge: throughout all track structure
Surface: Cross-level, Ballast and Drainage
Rail: Flaws such as broken rails ( internal and external), and wear
Tie condition: hollow, cracked and broken
Switch’s: gapped points, breaks, frog conditions
Joints and Bolts: broken, pull aparts, loose or insufficient bolts
Vegetation: fire or tripping hazards

The inspection will provide you with a detailed list of defects that should be corrected within 30 days to prevent accident or injury. Also included is a budgetary maintenance figure broken down over a 3 to 5-year span so you can successfully plan and keep your rail spur in good condition.
